Perspectives on Women's Archives Selected for One Book, One Profession Reading Initiative by the Society of American Archivists: https://www2.archivists.org/one-book-one-profession The SAA Publications Board has selected Perspectives on Women's Archives, edited by Tanya Zanish-Belcher (the compiler of News from the Archives) and Anke Voss, for its One Book, One Profession reading initiative. The book features eighteen essays written by noted archivists and historians that illustrate the origins of a women-centered history, the urgent need to locate records that highlight the diverse experiences of women, and the effort to document women's experiences. Deftly examining American culture and society over the past few centuries, the essays also expose the need for renewed collaboration between archivists and historians, the challenges related to the accessibility of women's collections, and the development of community archives. Women and Leadership Archives, Loyola University On August 26, 2018, the Edgewater Historical Society will be presenting a new exhibit entitled, "The Chicago Conspiracy Trial: One Juror's Ordeal." Jean Fritz, who grew up in Edgewater, was a juror on the trial. The jury was sequestered for four and a half months and she kept journals, which will be donated to the Women and Leadership Archives with other materials after the exhibit concludes. Her journals are a "unique testament to a unique moment in American history. They are also the record of one woman's struggle with the ideas of justice, democracy and her own role as a citizen" (Chicago Tribune) |
