NEWS FROM THE ARCHIVES
|
September 2016 News from the Archives provides readers with news concerning U.S. Women's History from archives and repositories with collections and projects of interest. If you are affiliated with an archive or repository and would like to submit an announcement that you feel would be of interest to our readers, please contact Tanya Zanish-Belcher at [email protected]. Jewish Women's Archives The Archives has created an online exhibit, Women Rabbis, utilizing video clips and organized around the following themes: Path to the Rabbinate, Being Different, Leadership, Prayer and Spirituality, Crisis, Making Change and Role Models. JWA also shared interviews and other information related to Jewish women who participated in the Olympics during the 20th and 21st centuries: http://jwa.org/discover/infocus/olympics Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College The Sophia Smith Collection has been awarded a grant of $250,000 from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) for a two-year project to digitize, create metadata, and make available online 379 reels of microfilmed records, serials, and photographs in the YWCA of the USA Records. This popular and rich content represents transnational history, as well as the intersections of race, gender, geography, immigration, socio-cultural politics, and U.S. national policy. The Collection has also partnered in a free massive open online course (or MOOC) on women's activism, which will be offered this Fall 2016 (first offered in Spring 2016): https://www.edx.org/course/psychology-political-activism-women-smithx-psy374x-0 Society of American Archivists Annual Meeting (Atlanta, GA) At its most recent meeting, the Women Archivists Roundtable sponsored a Wikipedia edit-a-thon, to highlight the biographies and accomplishments of women archivists. Archivist Michele Pacifico also gave a presentation reflecting on her article, "Founding Mothers: Women in the Society of American Archivists, 1936-1972," The American Archivist (1987). |
